Bronchitis

How Chinese medicine differentiates acute bronchitis into the 6 patterns behind it, and the points for each. A deliberate acute companion to this site's own Chronic Bronchitis page — only half the patterns overlap. Acupuncture only — no herbs.

A cough with high fever, breathlessness, or blood in the sputum needs prompt medical evaluation to rule out pneumonia before any acupuncture is considered.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for acute bronchitis — 3 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

PointKey action
BL-13Stimulates the diffusing and descending of Lung-Qi. Expels external Wind. Regulates Nutritive and Defensive Qi.
LU-7Promotes the descending and diffusing of Lung-Qi. Releases the Exterior and expels exterior Wind. Opens the Directing Vessel.
ST-36Benefits Stomach and Spleen. Tonifies Qi and Blood. Tonifies the Original Qi.

Note: Confirmed absent again: this site's own Dry Cough page leaves the identically-named pattern unlinked for the same reason.
