Four Needle Technique

The Sa'am (Saam) Five-Element "Four Needle" root treatment: four points per organ — two to reinforce, two to reduce — using both the Sheng (generating) and Ke (controlling) cycles. Deficiency and Excess of the same organ use genuinely different formulas, not mirror opposites.

For a Deficiency of an organ: reinforce its Mother-element point (Sheng cycle) — on the organ's own channel, and the matching Horary point on the Mother organ's own channel — then reduce its Controller-element point (Ke cycle), again on both the organ's own channel and the Controller organ's own channel. Reducing the Controller keeps it from over-acting on the organ while its Mother-element is being reinforced.

Deficiency (Xu) — Tonify Mother, Sedate Controller

For an Excess of the same organ, the formula flips to the other two cycle-relationships entirely: reinforce the Controller-element point (Ke cycle) to strengthen its restraint over the excess, then reduce the Child/Son-element point (Sheng cycle) to drain the excess out through what the organ itself generates — again on both the organ's own channel and the corresponding channel.
