Uterine Prolapse

How Chinese medicine differentiates uterine prolapse, the four patterns you'll actually meet in practice, and the points for each. Acupuncture only — no herbs, and only as supportive care alongside gynecological assessment.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Uterine prolapse needs a gynecological exam to grade its severity — acupuncture here is supportive care for milder cases and symptom relief, not a substitute for that assessment or for pelvic floor/surgical treatment when needed.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for uterine prolapse — 8 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

The Four Patterns

1. Spleen Qi Sinking View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: A bearing-down sensation in the pelvis, worse with prolonged standing or exertion; chronic fatigue; weak limbs; poor appetite; loose stools; a pale complexion; reluctance to speak.
Tongue: Pale, puffy, tender with teeth marks, thin white coating. Pulse: Weak and forceless, particularly at the right Guan position.
Treatment principle: Tonify Spleen-Qi and raise sinking energy to restore the uterus to its proper position.
Du-20 ↑ Ren-6 ↑ ST-36 ↑ SP-6 ↑ EX-CA-1 (Zigong) ↑
Note: moxa applicable. Direct match with Spleen-Qi sinking.

2. Kidney Qi Deficiency

Clinical manifestations: Soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees; frequent nighttime urination; dizziness; tinnitus; shortness of breath on exertion; pelvic heaviness; poor memory; general fatigue.
Tongue: Pale, slightly puffy body with possible tooth marks, thin white coating. Pulse: Deep and weak, especially at the Chi (Kidney) positions.
Treatment principle: Strengthen Kidney-Qi to anchor the uterus and restore Lower-Burner stability.
Du-20 ↑ Ren-4 ↑ BL-23 ↑ KI-3 ↑ EX-CA-1 (Zigong) ↑
Note: moxa applicable. This pattern's plain \"Kidney-Qi deficiency\" framing doesn't match this site's \"Kidney-Qi not Firm\" slide, which is specifically about incontinence/leakage rather than prolapse — no pattern link is given here.

3. Qi and Blood Deficiency

Clinical manifestations: A pale or sallow complexion; dizziness; heart palpitations; dry skin; pale lips; numbness and tingling in the limbs; prolapse worsening with exertion.
Tongue: Pale body, may be thin or have teeth marks, thin white coating. Pulse: Fine, thin, weak, lacking force.
Treatment principle: Tonify both Qi and Blood to nourish tissues and restore lifting capacity.
Note: moxa applicable. No deck on this site combines Qi and Blood deficiency into one slide, so no pattern link is given here.

4. Damp-Heat in the Lower Burner View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Foul-smelling, yellow vaginal discharge; burning in the vulva or lower abdomen; pelvic heaviness with a heat sensation; dark or scanty, burning urination.
Tongue: Red body with yellow greasy coating, thickest at the root. Pulse: Slippery and rapid.
Treatment principle: Clear Damp-Heat locally while addressing underlying Qi deficiency.
Note: no moxa. Direct match with Damp-Heat in the Bladder.
