Blocked Fallopian Tubes

How Chinese medicine differentiates blocked fallopian tubes into the four patterns you'll actually meet in practice, and the points for each. Distinct from this site's Infertility and Endometriosis pages. Acupuncture only — no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. A confirmed tubal blockage needs medical imaging and, where relevant, discussion of surgical or IVF options alongside any acupuncture approach; sudden severe pelvic pain needs emergency assessment for ectopic pregnancy or tubal rupture.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for blocked fallopian tubes — 3 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

PointKey action
REN-4Nourishes Blood and Yin. Strengthens the Kidneys. Strengthens the Uterus and regulates menstruation.
SP-6Strengthens the Spleen. Resolves Dampness. Promotes the function of the Liver and the smooth flow of Liver-Qi.
LIV-3Subdues Liver-Yang. Extinguishes interior Wind. Promotes the smooth flow of Liver-Qi.
The Four Patterns

↑ reinforcing   ↓ reducing   ⊥ even method.

1. Qi and Blood Stagnation

Clinical manifestations: Distending, shifting lower abdominal pain linked to emotional stress; premenstrual breast tenderness; irregular cycles; dark menstrual blood with clots; irritability and mood swings.
Tongue: Dark purple with stasis spots and distended sublingual veins. Pulse: Wiry, taut like a guitar string, with a choppy quality.
Treatment principle: Moves Blood and Qi in the lower abdomen, directly addressing the stasis blocking the fallopian tubes.
Note: no moxa. No combined Qi-and-Blood-stagnation slide exists on this site's decks — no pattern link is given here.

2. Damp-Heat in the Lower Burner View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Yellow-green, foul-smelling discharge; lower abdominal heaviness; burning urination; a bitter taste; an afternoon heat sensation.
Tongue: Red with thick yellow greasy coating at the root. Pulse: Slippery and rapid.
Treatment principle: Clears Damp-Heat from the Lower Burner, reduces inflammation and allows the tubal passages to gradually clear.
Note: no moxa. Linked to this site's own Damp-Heat-in-the-Liver slide, its established Lower-Burner Damp-Heat convention.

3. Blood Stagnation View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Fixed, stabbing lower abdominal pain, worse at night or with pressure; very dark menstrual blood with large clots; dark lips or a dusky complexion.
Tongue: Purple or dusky with stasis spots, distended dark sublingual veins. Pulse: Choppy or wiry.
Treatment principle: Invigorates sluggish Blood flow in the lower abdomen, breaking up congealed blockages that prevent egg and sperm from meeting.
Note: no moxa. Linked to this site's own Liver-Blood-stasis slide per the discoloration-marker rule.

4. Kidney Yang Deficiency View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: A dull, cold lower back and abdominal ache; frequent urination especially at night; a cold feeling throughout the body, worse in the lower body; a clear, watery discharge; severe fatigue; a preference for warmth.
Tongue: Pale, puffy, tender, teeth-marked, wet white coating. Pulse: Deep, slow, weak, especially at the rear positions.
Treatment principle: Restores foundational warmth, thawing the Cold stagnation preventing Blood movement through the tubes.
Note: moxa is strongly indicated.
