Scrotal Contraction

How Chinese medicine addresses scrotal contraction with its core pattern and the points for it. Distinct from this site's own Testicular Swelling page. Acupuncture only — no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Sudden, severe scrotal pain needs urgent medical evaluation to rule out testicular torsion — a surgical emergency — before assuming a simple pattern.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for scrotal contraction — 4 key points.

PointKey action
REN-4Nourishes Blood and Yin. Strengthens the Kidneys.
REN-6Tonifies Qi and Yang. Raises sinking Qi.
LR-3Subdues Liver-Yang. Promotes the smooth flow of Liver-Qi. Invigorates Blood.
SP-6Strengthens the Spleen. Nourishes Blood and Yin.

Clinical manifestations: Cold cramping pain in the lower abdomen, pain pulling toward the groin or testicles, scrotal contraction or testicular cold pain, feeling of cold in the lower belly, cold limbs.
Tongue: Pale body with a white, slippery coating. Pulse: Deep, wiry, and slow or tight.
Treatment principle: Warm the Liver and Kidneys, move Qi and alleviate pain, warm the Liver channel and dispel Cold.
Note: moxa strongly indicated throughout. Direct exact-name match with this site's own Stagnation-of-Cold-in-the-Liver-channel slide — the source itself gives only this single pattern, unlike most conditions on this site.
