Stabbing Fixed Pain

How Chinese medicine differentiates the general symptom of stabbing, fixed, non-migrating pain into the 5 patterns behind it, and the points for each. A cross-body symptom page, not tied to one condition — distinct from this site's Purple Tongue and Distended Sublingual Veins signs. Acupuncture only — no herbs.

Sudden, severe or worsening stabbing pain, especially in the chest, abdomen or head, needs urgent medical assessment to rule out a surgical or cardiac emergency before any acupuncture is considered.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for stabbing, fixed pain — 4 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

The Five Patterns

1. Blood Stagnation View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Fixed, unmoving stabbing pain that is worse at night and worse with pressure; dark purplish lips or nails; dark clotted menstrual blood; rough, dry skin.
Tongue: Purple or dusky with stasis spots, distended dark sublingual veins, thin white coating. Pulse: Choppy, or wiry.
Treatment principle: Invigorate Blood and remove obstruction; warmth and gentle movement encourage circulation.

2. Qi and Blood Stagnation View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Fixed stabbing pain worse with pressure, chest or rib distension, irritability and emotional tension, a dark complexion, dark clotted periods that worsen premenstrually.
Tongue: Dark purple with stasis spots, distended sublingual veins, thin white coating. Pulse: Wiry and choppy.
Treatment principle: Smooth Liver-Qi to address the root cause while moving both Qi and Blood together.

3. Qi Deficiency causing Blood Stagnation

Clinical manifestations: Fixed stabbing pain with pressure sensitivity, persistent fatigue, shortness of breath on exertion, reluctance to speak, a dusky complexion; pain eases with rest but worsens with activity.
Tongue: Pale-dark or pale-purple with stasis spots and teeth marks, thin white coating. Pulse: Deep, fine, weak and choppy.
Treatment principle: Tonify Qi to propel the Blood while gently moving the stagnation.
Note: Confirmed absent again: no deck on this site names a Qi-Deficiency-causing-Blood-Stagnation category on its own, so no pattern link is given here.

4. Blood Stagnation with Heat

Clinical manifestations: Fixed stabbing pain in one spot, worse at night and with pressure, local warmth or burning, irritability and restlessness, thirst with a wish only to rinse the mouth, dark scanty urine, dry stools.
Tongue: Reddish-purple with stasis spots, distended sublingual veins, thin dry yellow coating. Pulse: Choppy and rapid, often wiry at the left Guan.
Treatment principle: Cool the Blood while invigorating circulation, since heat thickens Blood and worsens stagnation.
Note: Confirmed absent again (also confirmed absent in batch 77): standalone Blood-Stagnation-with-Heat has no matching deck slide on this site.

5. Phlegm in the Channels View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Hard joint swelling, numbness or heaviness in the limbs, subcutaneous nodules near joints, purplish discolouration around affected areas, chest tightness or a phlegm sensation in the throat.
Tongue: Purple with stasis spots, white greasy coating, distended sublingual veins. Pulse: Wiry and choppy, or wiry and slippery.
Treatment principle: Transform Phlegm and invigorate Blood; warmth and movement prevent further accumulation.
Note: Linked to the same Blood-stasis slide used above — this site's decks do not carry a separate Phlegm-in-the-Channels category, and the pain-and-stasis framing is the closer match.
