Tricuspid Valve Disorder

How Chinese medicine differentiates tricuspid valve disorder into the four patterns you'll actually meet in practice, and the points for each. Supportive care alongside cardiology follow-up, not a substitute for it. Acupuncture only — no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Chest pain, palpitations, or shortness of breath should be evaluated by a cardiologist to rule out a more serious cause; acupuncture here is supportive alongside that care, not a substitute for it.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for tricuspid valve disorder (supportive, alongside cardiology care) — 10 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

The Four Patterns

1. Disharmony Between Heart and Kidneys Caused by Kidney Yang Deficiency

Clinical manifestations: Aching, cold low back and knees, feeling of heat/agitation in the chest while the lower body feels cold, palpitations with fright or restlessness, swelling of the lower limbs and feet, fatigue, poor memory, frequent clear urination.
Tongue: Pale, puffy, teeth-marked with a moist white coat, tip may be slightly redder. Pulse: Deep, slow, weak, especially at the Chi position.
Treatment principle: Warm Kidney Yang to restore foundational warmth and support the Heart's pumping action.
Note: moxa applicable throughout. This site's only combined Heart-and-Kidney slide (Kidneys and Heart not harmonized) is Yin-deficiency/Empty-Heat framed, not a fit for this Yang-deficiency/Cold picture (cold low back, cold lower body) — the same content-over-name discipline applied across this project — no pattern link is given here; points still link fine individually.

2. Qi and Blood Deficiency

Clinical manifestations: Persistent fatigue and weakness, pale or sallow complexion, pale lips, heart palpitations worse with exertion, dizziness, lightheadedness, poor appetite, spontaneous sweating.
Tongue: Pale body, thin or with teeth marks, thin white coating. Pulse: Fine and weak, may feel empty.
Treatment principle: Tonify Qi and Blood to nourish the Heart muscle.
Note: moxa applicable throughout. This site has no combined Qi-and-Blood-deficiency slide, a gap confirmed absent many times over — no pattern link is given here; points still link fine individually.

3. Heart Blood Stagnation View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Stabbing or pricking chest pain in a fixed location, purple or dark discoloration of the lips and nails, dark purple tongue with stasis spots, pain radiating to the shoulder, upper back, or inner left arm.
Tongue: Dark purple body with stasis spots, distended sublingual veins, thin white coat. Pulse: Choppy or knotted.
Treatment principle: Invigorate Blood circulation and eliminate stasis in the chest.
Note: no moxa. Direct exact-name match with this site's own Heart-Blood-stasis slide.

4. Phlegm in Chest

Clinical manifestations: Heavy, stuffy sensation in the chest, coughing with abundant white sticky phlegm, thick white greasy tongue coating, nausea or sensation of phlegm stuck in the throat, feeling of heaviness in the body and a foggy head.
Tongue: Pale, swollen body with teeth marks, thick white greasy coating appearing oily. Pulse: Slippery, often slightly wiry.
Treatment principle: Transform Phlegm obstruction and unblock Yang in the chest.
Note: no moxa. This site's Heart-deck Phlegm slide (Phlegm misting the Mind) is a Shen-disturbance/unconsciousness pattern, not this chest-heaviness/cough presentation — no pattern link is given here; points still link fine individually.
