Weight Gain or Difficulty Losing Weight

How Chinese medicine differentiates persistent weight gain or resistance to weight loss into the five patterns you'll actually meet in practice, and the points for each. Distinct from this site's Tendency to Gain Weight or Retain Water and Obesity pages. Acupuncture only — no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Rapid, unexplained weight gain over a few days needs prompt medical evaluation for heart, kidney, or thyroid disease.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for weight gain or difficulty losing weight — 3 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.
