3. Exterior-Heat
Clinical manifestations: A fever with slight chills, a sore throat, mild sweating, thirst and dry mouth, a thin faintly yellow coating, headache.
Tongue: Normal or slightly red at the tip and sides, thin white coating with a faint yellowish tinge. Pulse: Floating and rapid.
Treatment principle: Disperse Wind-Heat, clear Heat, resolve toxicity.

Tongue: Red with prickly papillae, thick dry yellow coating that may turn brownish in severe cases. Pulse: Deep, full and forceful, rapid, may feel slippery.
Treatment principle: Purge Heat vigorously, promote the bowel movement, move Qi.
