Yellow Vaginal Discharge

How Chinese medicine differentiates yellow, foul-smelling vaginal discharge into the three patterns you'll actually meet in practice, and the points for each. Distinct from this site's own Leukorrhea page (white discharge). Acupuncture only — no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Yellow discharge, especially with fever, pelvic pain, or a foul odor, needs prompt medical evaluation to rule out infection before assuming a simple pattern.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for yellow vaginal discharge — 5 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

The Three Patterns

1. Damp-Heat in the Liver Channel View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Foul-smelling yellow discharge, genital itching or burning, bitter taste in the mouth, irritability and quick temper, dark, scanty urine.
Tongue: Red body with noticeably redder sides, yellow greasy coating thicker at the centre and root. Pulse: Wiry, slippery, and rapid.
Treatment principle: Drains excess Fire from the Liver and Gallbladder, clears Damp-Heat from the Lower Burner, clears Heat from the Liver channel.
Note: no moxa. Direct exact-name match with this site's own Damp-Heat-in-the-Liver slide — its own text names yellow vaginal discharge explicitly.

2. Liver Qi Stagnation with Spleen Qi Deficiency that Transforms into Heat View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Yellowish, sticky discharge, worse with emotional stress, rib-side distension and sighing, irritability and quick temper, bloating and loose stools.
Tongue: Red body with redder sides, teeth marks, thin to moderately thick yellow and slightly greasy coating. Pulse: Wiry and rapid.
Treatment principle: Courses the Liver and resolves constraint, clears Heat from the Liver and Blood, nourishes Blood.
Note: no moxa. This site's decks have no combined Liver-Qi-stagnation-with-Spleen-Qi-deficiency slide; linked to the Stagnant-Liver-Qi-turning-into-Heat slide for the Liver-and-Heat component, flagged since the Spleen-Qi-deficiency (teeth marks, loose stools) component isn't captured there.

3. Damp-Heat Invading the Spleen View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Yellow, thick, sticky vaginal discharge, often foul-smelling, bloating and stuffiness in the upper abdomen, poor appetite and nausea, heavy sensation in the body and limbs.
Tongue: Red body with yellow, greasy coating thickest at the centre and root, possibly swollen with teeth marks. Pulse: Soggy and rapid or slippery and rapid.
Treatment principle: Secures the Kidneys and stops vaginal discharge, clears Heat and drains Dampness, secures the Chong and Ren Vessels.
Note: no moxa. Linked to this site's own Damp-Heat-invading-the-Spleen slide, its general Damp-Heat match.
