Candidiasis (Yeast Infection)

How Chinese medicine differentiates candidiasis, the five patterns you'll actually meet in practice, and the points for each. Acupuncture only — no herbs; antifungal care remains standard treatment alongside pattern-based support.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Recurrent or severe candidiasis can indicate diabetes, antibiotic overuse, or an immune issue worth ruling out medically.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for candidiasis — 10 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

The Five Patterns

1. Damp-Heat in the Liver Channel View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Intense genital itching and burning; thick yellow foul-smelling vaginal discharge; bitter taste in mouth; fullness or pain along the ribs; worse with emotional stress, spicy/greasy foods.
Tongue: Red body with redder sides, yellow greasy coating thicker at the centre and root. Pulse: Wiry, slippery, and rapid.
Treatment principle: Drain Liver Fire and clear Damp-Heat from the lower burner along the Liver channel.
Note: no moxa. Direct match — the deck slide names genital itching, burning and papular/vesicular rashes explicitly.

2. Damp-Heat in the Lower Burner View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Thick yellow curd-like or foul-smelling vaginal discharge; burning/stinging during urination; heavy dragging sensation in lower abdomen or legs; anal burning/itching.
Tongue: Red body, swollen, with yellow greasy coating thickest at root. Pulse: Slippery and rapid, or soggy at the rear position.
Treatment principle: Clear heat and drain dampness from the pelvis, promote urination to leach out turbidity.
Note: no moxa. Direct match with this site's Damp-Heat in the Bladder slide on the Lower Burner organ-system level.

3. Spleen Deficiency with Dampness

Clinical manifestations: Sticky white vaginal or oral discharge without burning; fatigue and heavy sensation in limbs; poor appetite with abdominal bloating after meals; loose stools or diarrhoea.
Tongue: Pale and swollen body with teeth marks, white greasy coating, moist surface. Pulse: Soggy and slow, soft and lacking force, may be slippery.
Treatment principle: Tonify Spleen Qi to restore fluid transformation, dry dampness without further weakening digestion.
Note: moxa applicable on the tonifying points. No deck on this site combines Spleen deficiency with Dampness in one slide, so no pattern link is given here.

4. Damp-Heat in Stomach and Spleen View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: White curd-like patches in mouth (scrappable, revealing red inflamed tissue); bloating and fullness in upper abdomen; sticky or incomplete bowel movements; bitter or sticky taste with bad breath.
Tongue: Red body, possibly swollen with teeth marks, thick yellow greasy coating heaviest in centre and back. Pulse: Soggy and rapid, often slippery.
Treatment principle: Clear heat and transform dampness from Spleen and Stomach, drain turbidity rising to the mouth.
Note: no moxa. Matched to this site's Damp-Heat in the Stomach slide, the same one used for oral thrush-adjacent conditions like Bad Breath and Toothache.

5. Yin Deficiency View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Thin non-sticky vaginal discharge (not thick or curd-like); dry mouth and throat especially at night; night sweats; heat in palms/soles/chest.
Tongue: Red, thin body with cracks, little or no coating. Pulse: Fine and rapid.
Treatment principle: Nourish Yin fluids and clear empty heat.
Note: no moxa. Matched to this site's Kidney-Yin deficiency/Empty-Heat blazing slide — night sweats and heat in palms/soles/chest are the same Empty-Heat markers named there.
