Crying

How Chinese medicine differentiates excessive or easily-triggered crying into the five patterns described for it, and the points for each. Distinct from this site's Uncontrollable Laughing or Crying, Sadness and Grief pages. Acupuncture only β€” no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students β€” it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Crying that feels uncontrollable, or comes with thoughts of self-harm, needs prompt support from a mental-health professional. Acupuncture is a complement, never a replacement.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for excessive or easily-triggered crying β€” 3 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

HE-7Calms the Mind and opens the Mind’s orifices. Nourishes Heart-Blood.
P-6Opens the chest and moves Qi and Blood. Calms the Mind. Moves Liver-Qi.
SP-6Strengthens the Spleen. Resolves Dampness. Promotes the function of the Liver and the smooth flow of Liver-Qi.
