Dull Pale Complexion

How Chinese medicine differentiates a dull, pale complexion into the six patterns you'll actually meet in practice, and the points for each. Distinct from this site's own Pale Inner Eyelids and Pale Lips and Nail Beds pages. Acupuncture only — no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students — it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. A dull pale complexion alongside fatigue or breathlessness needs medical evaluation to rule out anemia or another underlying cause before assuming a simple pattern.

Tongue: Pale body, possibly thin with tooth marks, thin white coating. Pulse: Fine, weak, may feel empty under pressure.
Treatment principle: Tonify both Qi and Blood simultaneously to rebuild vital reserves.
Note: moxa applicable on REN-6. This site has no combined Qi-and-Blood-deficiency slide, a gap confirmed absent many times over this session — no pattern link is given here; points still link fine individually.

3. Blood Deficiency

Clinical manifestations: Dull pale complexion lacking luster, pale lips and nail beds, dizziness or light-headedness, scanty menstrual flow with pale blood, numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, insomnia.
Tongue: Pale, thin body with thin white coating. Pulse: Fine, weak, possibly choppy.

6. Spleen Not Controlling Blood View full pattern →

Clinical manifestations: Easy bruising or tiny red-purple spots under the skin, heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, blood in stool or urine, bleeding gums, dull pale complexion lacking luster, deep fatigue and shortness of breath.
