Worry

How Chinese medicine differentiates worry into the five patterns described for it, and the points for each. Distinct from this site's Anxiety, Fear and Poor Concentration pages. Acupuncture only β€” no herbs.

This page is educational, for practitioners and students β€” it is not a diagnostic tool and does not replace a proper in-person assessment. Persistent, uncontrollable worry that disrupts sleep, work or relationships, or thoughts of self-harm, needs support from a mental-health professional. Acupuncture is a complement, not a replacement.
General Acupuncture Points

Acupuncture points traditionally used for worry β€” 3 key points, used across the patterns below rather than tied to just one.

PointKey action
HE-7Calms the Mind and opens the Mind’s orifices. Nourishes Heart-Blood.
ST-36Benefits Stomach and Spleen. Tonifies Qi and Blood. Tonifies the Original Qi.
SP-6Strengthens the Spleen. Resolves Dampness. Promotes the function of the Liver and the smooth flow of Liver-Qi.
